Artful Vision
Wine as an Art
A bottle of Witness wine, like a great painting fine artwork, is an expression that continually evolves over time. We experience unique perceptions each time we pop the cork on a favorite bottling, just as we encounter different insights each time we view a powerful painting or sculpture. Inspired by the owner’s decades of connoisseurship of contemporary art and fine wine, Matt Felton, the founder of the Witness project aims to revel in the act of perception, both of carefully crafted wine and of superb works of art.
Just as Witness aspires to bottle the very best examples of terroir driven Oregon Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the label symbolically pairs the wine with an image of an artwork from a world renowned contemporary artist.
"bearing witness" is
the contemplation of the feelings that emerge as we see, taste, admire, and internalize a thing of beauty.
A Curated Approach to each Vintage
Moments of Serendipity
Each vintage of Witness features a distinctive work by a renowned contemporary artist—a curated approach that reflects the singularity of each wine release. Just as every work of great art is the sum of pieces that were both intentionally and serendipitously incorporated, so too, is each bottle of fine wine.
Our labels celebrate the fleeting nature of the experience of connoisseurship and acknowledge the truth that the precise combination of elements that come together to engender every work of art—and each vintage of Witness wine—will never again exist.

REGGIE BURROWS HODGES
The art behind our 2023 Vintage
Reggie Burrows Hodges explores storytelling and visual metaphor through paintings that engage with questions of identity, community, truth and memory. He explores how identity and meaning emerge from context — how figures are shaped by the worlds around them. At Witness Wines, we’re inspired by that relationship between body and environment. Just as Hodges builds his scenes from a deep, grounding black, each of our wines begins in the richness of the soil, its character revealed through layers of place and time. His play of presence and absence reflects the balance we seek in every bottle — the quiet harmony between what is expressed and what is discovered.
STANLEY WHITNEY Luncheon on the Grass (1993-1994)
The art behind our 2022 Vintage
Stanley Whitney’s oil-on-canvas interpretations of structure, abstraction, color, and space have dynamized the art world since the 1970s, and inspire us in our work at Witness. Whitney’s finest paintings exhibit a balance of tension and unity, in the same way that the finest wines both test and complete us. The organic delineations in Whitney’s piece, “Luncheon on the Grass,” evoke, for us, the natural beauty of our vineyard, with each block, or section, revealing its own unique character.
